region is home to five of the Top 10 golf courses in North Carolina, and eight of the Top 20, as indicated below:

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's Dormie Club in West End also earned the state's Best New Course for 2011. Coore and Crenshaw moved little earth, instead taking advantage of the landscape - more than 300 rolling acres, 100-foot elevation changes, two natural lakes and hardwood and pine forests - to craft a course that boast undulating greens, wide fairways and more than a few waste bunkers (94).
The Golf Panel also produced a Top 12 list
for seven different regions within the state - Coastal, Mountains,
Triad, Triangle, Charlotte Metro, Eastern and Sandhills.
