Writer Wants Film Shot in NC Sandhills
Jim Dodson, author of the best seller Final Rounds,
announced his plans to use NC based financing to transform the fictional
novel into a feature film. Dodson, who also writes a very popular
column for the Southern Pines based Pilot newspaper, has rediscovered
the joy of living and working in North Carolina. He grew up in Greensboro,
but fell in love with the game of golf through trips to the Pinehurst,
Southern Pines, and Aberdeen Area with his father.
Dodson worked on staff as a reporter and columnist
for both the Washington Post and Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and
then spent many years on the staff of Golf Magazine. His books include
biographies on famous golfers Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan. Another book,
Faithful Travelers, written in 1989, was made into a movie starring
David James Elliott. He recently left the monthly magazine to concentrate
on book writing and his newspaper column work.
Dodson is currently writing his next book, a
fictional piece that is set in the historic Sandhills area where
he resides part time (his primary residence is Topsham, Maine).
Having been approached several times by major film studios with scripts
for Final Rounds, the conditions offered just didn't measure up for him,
and thus he has decided to spearhead the effort himself, with the help
of North Carolina based investors. One of the earlier offers required
the filming to take place outside of the United States. As a result
one thing he has promised is that a majority of the filming will take
place where the book was set - in North Carolina.
