Visiting Pete's Place
Since 1974 when Pete Gulley started his humble little plant stand
in charming downtown Southern Pines, visitors near and far have enjoyed learning all
about plants from Pete and his knowledgeable staff. Besides great customer service he
offers a lush green sanctuary with plants you just can't find at the corner big box
home and garden store. Throw in a Christmas Cottage Shop, one-of-a-kind gifts, and a
military memorabilia museum (Gulley is a Vietnam War Vet) ranging from the civil war
through the Gulf War, and it's no secret that both residents and visitors alike just
like to hang out at Pete's Place.
Gulley's business has grown over the past 30 years and expanded,
making his corner of downtown a real Shangri-La. Even so the place has always been
known for its great customer service — there is always some one there to wait on you.
And the employees there know their stuff, and will spend as much time as you need to
figure out what garden remedy or addition is just right for your home. The advice
is free, and the stroll over his extensive grounds is relaxing and intriguing, and
well worth the visit. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9-5 and 9-4 on
Saturdays. For more information contact Gulley's directly at 910-692-3223,
or on the web at http://home.earthlink.net/~gulleysgardencenter/, or contact the
Convention & Visitors Bureau.
