No Matter What Kind of Course You Prefer, Many Sandhills Area Golf Courses Rank in Golfweek’s Top 100

SOUTHERN PINES, NC – NOVEMBER 15, 2007 – Based on Golfweek's recently published Bests Lists for US golf courses, the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area is clearly a leader in providing great golf. The Home of American Golf has 8 courses ranked in the top 100 within 6 categories and several rank in multiple categories. The categories included: Residential, Best New, Modern, Resort, Classic, and "You can Play."

Specifically, these courses made the lists. Forest Creek – North and South courses both made the residential listing in positions #15 and #29 respectively. The North course also made the lists for Best New (#16) and Modern (#76).

For Resort courses, Pinehurst No.2 ranked #3, Pinehurst No.8 ranked #50, Pine Needles ranked #15 and Mid Pines came in #46 out of the top 100 in the country.

Area courses ranked in the Classic category were Pinehurst No.2 (#11) and Pine Needles (#66).

Within the 10 Best North Carolina "You Can Play" courses, six hail from the Sandhills area. Coming in at #7 is Pinehurst No.8. Tobacco Road is #6, followed by Pinehurst No.4. Next are Mid Pines at #4 and its sister course Pine Needles in the #2 position. And the #1 slot goes to Pinehurst No. 2, the timeless classic designed by Donald Ross.
