Seven Great Things To Do in 2007 at the Home of American Golf®

SOUTHERN PINES, NC – JANUARY 7, 2007 – Here's the inside scoop on getting 2007 off on the right foot in one of North Carolina's great getaways – the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area. Located in the heartland part of the state –it's the Home of American Golf, but the area has so much more to offer that this year you’ll want to put on the top of the list of places to visit.

  • With the U.S. Women's Open just months away, now is the time to get a round in at the storied, Donald Ross designed Pine Needles. Even if you've played it before – it most likely hasn't been since the incredible restoration work completed by John Fought. The bunkering is superb and the fairways and greens outstanding, and don't worry about not enough yardage for you big hitters – play it all the way back for a full day on the links at 7100 yards.

  • Looking for a new place to hang your hat when you come to visit the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen Area? Old becomes new again when the historic Jefferson Inn located in downtown Southern Pines reopens it's doors in early '07, complete with lush accommodations including flat screen TVs, 300 count bed sheets and rain shower heads in all the rooms. Yes you deserve it!

  • While we are on the idea of a getaway – if golf is not your thing, how about some one-of-a-kind shopping? Check out the new additions at the Pinehurst Theater building where retailer extraordinaire Sharon King owns and operates several specialty shops. She and her staff have the one-of-a-kind gift that you might just keep for your self – from candles to collectibles.

  • So you have kids in tow? No problem – here are just a few ideas for things to do in the Sandhills:

    • One cool playground – adjacent to the quaint village of Pinehurst is Cannon Park and loads of place to climb, swing, and act like a kid. There is also plenty of open space for soccer, Frisbee or kite flying.

    • A walk in the woods might be just what you need – and one of the best places in the state for fresh air and great trails is Weymouth Woods State Nature Preserve. See an endangered red cockaded woodpecker while you hike through the last of the great longleaf pine forest.

    • Neat eats downtown – for kids of all ages, and especially enticing for teens – there are soda shops, ice cream parlors, spicy authentic Mexican fare and pizza joints (even great sushi if that's your thing) all in the quaint downtowns of Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen. Priced right and super casual you’ll be glad the kids are with you when you visit!
