migration into Moore County increased by 26.7%, while North Carolina
experienced a net migration of 21.4%. Population growth in Moore
County can be contributed to the pleasant climate, varied lifestyle, excellent medical services,
and other amenities available to residents. These assets make the
county attractive and draw many newcomers to the area each year
as permanent residents.
Southern Pines is Moore County’s largest town and Carthage is the county seat. Moore County has a total area of 705.23 square miles, with 698.83 square miles of land area. The county’s average temperature in January is 39°F and the average July temperature is 78°F. The average rainfall is 47 inches and the elevation of Moore County is 575 feet above sea level.
