Pinehurst No. 2 Again Ranks as NC's Best Golf Course: |
The North Carolina Golf Panel released their 2012 list of Top 100 Golf Courses in North Carolina in the April 2012 issue of BUSINESS NORTH CAROLINA. Among the Top 10 in the state were five Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area golf courses:
1. Pinehurst No. 2
5. Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club
6. Country Club of North Carolina (Dogwood)
9. Forest Creek Golf Club (South)
10. Pinehurst No. 8
Dormie Club in West End took home the Best New Course award and ranked as 22nd best layout in it rookie year.

October 27, 2011 — Golfweek releases its list of 2011 Best New
Courses and states, "These days, as the development pipeline has slowed to a trickle, we have far fewer
candidates from which to choose. That’s reflected in the size of this list: A year ago, we capped it at
40 courses; this year, it’s 25."

Golf Magazine Releases 2011 List of Top 100 Courses in the U.S.: |
August 1, 2011 — Golf Magazine's 15th biennial edition of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S. celebrates consistency and tradition. Pine Valley repeated as No. 1, actually widening its lead over runner-up Cypress Point. Other stalwarts advanced with the help of inspired renovations. Pinehurst No. 2 snuck into the U.S. Top 10 thanks to a bold restoration that dramatically altered its look and playability. To see the complete list click here.

Pinehurst No. 2 Reopens After Restoration: |
On Monday, April 11, 2011, Ben Crenshaw joined Pinehurst owner Bob Dedman for the official reopening of Pinehurst No. 2. More than 65 members of the media along with Ben played No. 2 for the first time since the course reopened after a year-long restoration. And the reviews were incredible. Golf Digest's May 2011 issue contains its list of "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses" for 2011/2012. Only 5 golf courses in North Carolina made the list - among them Pinehurst No. 2 which came in at #37. (This ranking is based on the course before the restoration.) The Golf Digest ranking, the oldest in golf, was established in 1966, and includes both public and private golf courses across the country.

Golfweek's 2011 list of "Best Courses You Can Play" in North Carolina includes seven courses in the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area. Only ten courses in all were listed for North Carolina. To qualify a golf course must make itself available to the general public.

USGA Announces U.S. Women's and Men's Opens Both at Pinehurst in 2014: |
In an unprecedented move, the United States Golf Association announced that in 2014 the U.S. Women's Open, for the first time, will immediately follow the U.S. Open Championship on the same venue, Pinehurst No. 2, from June 12 to June 22. The venerable Donald Ross course will become the only golf venue to host the Men's and Women's Opens, the U.S. Amateurs (Men's and Women's), and the U.S. Senior Open Championships.
