A Bigger Better Blues Crawl In 2017
Continuing a beloved Southern Pines tradition, and embracing a growing community, The Sunrise Theater is excited to announce a new and improved Blues Crawl music fest. Blues Crawl has become one of the most popular and well-attended annual events in the Sandhills area for the past 16 years, and with so much growth comes necessary change. The Blues Crawl has been adapted and expanded to accommodate the needs of our loyal patrons. We have worked hard to make 2017 the best Blues Crawl yet, and we encourage everyone to spread the word about this year’s format.
In years past, the blistering heat of summer in the South drew complaints from venues and crawlers alike. To alleviate this issue, the new date for Blues Crawl will be Saturday, November 4th, 2017. The date change allows everyone to enjoy the cooler fall weather. Patrons were also frustrated when packed-to-capacity venues had to turn people with wristbands away. To address this concern, we have expanded the Blues Crawl by adding new locations that can accommodate larger crowds while keeping the familiar smaller and intimate venues, including several further down Broad Street: The Sly Fox, Beefeaters, and Broad Street Bar & Grill.
We realize that including venues further away also raises a mobility issue – how to get crawlers from The Jefferson to The Sly Fox? Our plan includes adding a shuttle bus to allow crawlers to move easily up and down Broad, and ensure everyone is able to access each venue. The shuttle will run on a continuous loop, and shuttle access is included with the price of the wristband.
Blues Crawl 2017 will feature top-tier nationally and internationally touring blues musicians. Among the venues you will find solo acts, duos, trios, and full bands – all renowned, professional performers. Along with the popular food trucks on site, several local restaurants will be offering special menus and deals on dining. We encourage crawlers to take advantage of the delicious food at participating restaurants Beefeaters, Betsy’s Crepes, Nosh, Rhett’s, and The Sly Fox.
