Celebration of Freedom and Flight Postponed Due to Worldwide Novel Coronavirus Concerns

Carthage, N.C. – (March 13, 2020) – With an abundance of caution to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the event team of Tarheel Festivals announced Thursday that the 2020 Festival D’Avion scheduled for April 17-18 will be postponed until later in the Fall.

The third annual Festival D’Avion, hosted at the Moore County Airport, was on track to be the largest and best to date, and this celebration of freedom and flight join a long list of community events and activities across the Sandhills, North Carolina and the United States to be canceled or postponed due to health precautions.

All Festival D’Avion components, including the Celebration Concert, hospitality functions, Runway 5K race, aircraft exhibits, fly-overs and entertainment will be rescheduled for Oct. 2-3, 2020. All event sponsorships will transfer to the new dates and any Festival D’Avion tickets purchased in advance or donated will be honored for the October dates. Sponsorship packages and discounted event tickets will remain on sale over the coming months.

“The health and safety of our attendees and sponsors are of the utmost importance,” said Peter Stilwell, co-founder for the Festival D’Avion. “We have been monitoring information regarding the spread of the coronavirus provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Emergency Management (NCDPS) and Moore County Emergency Services, and decided to postpone the festival as a measure to protect the residents and guests of our community.”

“This is certainly a difficult time in the world, and although we are disappointed to have to reschedule this year’s Festival D’Avion, we are glad we’ll have another opportunity later in the year to celebrate together,” said Festival D’Avion co-founder Dave Droschak. “We greatly appreciate the continued support from all branches of the military, the local business community and our patrons across North Carolina.”
