ATTIRE: All classes to be ridden in formal hunting attire. Braiding of manes or tails is optional.

PROGRAMS: Programs listing all classes, presentations, and competitors will be provided on the day of the Trials.

Horses and ponies to go two at a time at a safe hunting distance in all Junior and Adult classes except classes 1, 7, 9, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, and 20. Riders may only compete on 2 horses per class.

SCHOOLING: The Course will be open for SIX DAYS of schooling beginning Saturday, March 7 through Thursday, March 12. The course will be CLOSED FOR REPAIRS on Friday, March 13.

ELIGIBILITY: Guests of the Masters who ride with MCH as well as members and guests of other recognized hunts are invited to participate. Open to horses and ponies whose primary use is that of a field hunter (as opposed to showing, eventing, dressage) and have hunted regularly during the season with MCH or other recognized hunt. Eligibility questions to be referred to the Masters.

The Carolinas Foxhunter Series (CFS) is offered at four Carolinas based hunter trials. Year-end awards are based upon points accumulated during the year by the same rider/horse combination in the four CFS events. Same horse/rider combination must have hunted three (3) times during current season (to be confirmed by MFH) in the same field as the class they compete in. Year-end awards are presented annually at the Carolinas Hound Show. The High Point Performance Hunter and Hilltop Hunter will each collect $500.00 for their hunt.

JUNIOR CLASSES
Juniors who have hunted regularly on a guest’s horse may participate with that hunter.

1: BEGINNER JUNIOR HUNTER
Pony or Horse. Over a course of low fences. Juniors who ride in this class may not enter any other classes.

2: JUNIORS -18 YEARS OLD AND UNDER-Ponies

3: JUNIORS -13 YEARS OLD AND UNDER

4: JUNIORS -14 YEARS OLD THROUGH 18

5: OPEN JUNIOR

6: JUNIOR HILLTOPPER
Qualifications for Class 6 are identical to Class 12 with Junior to ride. May not compete in any other class.

7: CHAMPION JUNIOR HUNTER
1st and 2nd Place winners in Junior classes 2, 3, 4 & 5 will be asked to follow a Field Master appointed by the committee. The Judges will pick the horse or pony most suitable to hounds. No entry fee.

8: LEAD LINE (SCHEDULED 11 AM)
Open to riders six years old and under. To be shown-in-hand (led) at the walk by a competent handler of any age. No entry fee.

ADULT CLASSES
9: ADULT -FIRST SEASON HUNTER
Open to horses who have not hunted prior to this season

10: THOROUGHBRED HUNTER
Open to horses who are registered with the American Jockey Club.

11: NON-THOROUGHBRED HUNTER

12: STRICTLY FOR FOX HUNTERS (Amateur to Ride)
Open to ladies and gentlemen who belong to and hunt regularly with a recognized or registered hunt. This class is for riders who do not normally compete in horse shows or events.

13: STRICTLY FOR HILLTOPPERS (Amateur to Ride)
The qualifications for this class are identical to Class 12 except that horses and riders should be qualified in the Hilltopper field. Horses will go in a group following a designated Field master. Small logs may be included in this class.

13a: CAROLINAS HILLTOPPERS HUNTER (CFS Class)
No jumps, may be asked to open and close gates, mount and dismount, reverse field, downward and upward transitions.

14: PAIRS (May include one professional)
Pairs to ride and take each jump side-by-side. Juniors may make up their own teams or ride with an adult. Riding and jumping in pairs has greater risk than riding singly. Only teams that have schooled together should enter.

15: LADY’S HUNTER (Amateur to Ride)

16: GENTLEMAN’S HUNTER (Amateur to Ride)

17: HANDY HUNTER (Amateur to Ride)
Over the hunter trial course with handy hunter tests. Tests may include trotting a fence, opening and dosing a gate, etc. Course and tests will be posted and may be practiced schooling days.

18: HUNT TEAMS (May include one professional)
Teams of 3 to ride at a safe hunting distance taking the last jump side-by-side. Juniors may make up their own teams or ride with adults.

19: OPEN HUNTER/CAROLINAS PERFORMANCE HUNTER (CFS Class)
Jumps 3’0″ or less, may be asked to trot or canter fences, open and close gates, dismount and remount, or other fox hunting tasks. Must be entered in one additional hunter class.

20: CHAMPION HUNTER
1st and 2nd place winners in each class other than Hunt Teams, Pairs and Hilltoppers will be asked to follow a field Master, appointed by the Committee, over a course of his own choosing. No entry fee.
