Southern Pines Equine Associates War Horse Event Series Presented by Adequan®
Extra Extra … The August War Horse Event Series competition date has CHANGED! The new date is August 5-6. NCDCTA will recognize the WHES competitions in July, October and November.
The Southern Pines Equine Associates War Horse Event Series, presented by Adequan®, is a unique and highly successful competition which the Carolina Horse Park is proud to offer to the eventing community in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions of the country. Going into our 9th year, the series continues to grow by numbers of competitors, sponsors and volunteers and has had an amazing impact on the growth and popularity of the sport.
The Carolina Horse Park is proud to announce its new partnership with Feather Creek Farm, a 90-acre equestrian Eventing facility in Norman, Oklahoma, with the expansion of the War Horse Event Series. In April 2023, the two venues will expand the successful Southern Pines Equine Associates War Horse Event Series (WHES) schooling Horse Trials to include two competitions in Oklahoma. As Dynah Korhummel, owner of Feather Creek Farm, says, “it has been so exciting to work with Marc Donovan’s War Horse Event Series team for the last two years. I am so thankful to the Carolina Horse Park for giving me the opportunity to develop this successful series to a national level schooling show series with the expansion to Oklahoma. This partnership exemplifies true teamwork.”
Again this year, the SPEA WHES will partner with the United States Eventing Association (USEA) to gain classification as a registered schooling show. The series will award a select number of USEA full and supporting memberships to winners who are not currently USEA members. useventing.com
Dr. Tom Daniel, of Southern Pines Equine Associates, said, “Our nine years of sponsoring the War Horse Event Series is exciting for our team on so many levels. With these events come the opportunities to also share goodwill and charity in the community”. In 2019, The Carolina Horse Park Foundation announced an exciting partnership with the Rick Herrema Foundation promoting Rick’s Place. Rick’s Place is a 50-acre interactive greenspace 5.5 miles from Ft. Bragg, NC, that serves the Military Family. The Carolina Horse Park and Rick’s Place will work together to promote interactive outdoor activities within the Sandhills region. This partnership will jointly leverage the opportunity to reintegrate service members and their families through volunteerism, recreational activities and retreats to best support the many military families in our region.
We continue to offer dressage, cross country and show jumping schooling opportunities the day prior to each competition. Marc Donovan, the organizer of the series, states, “The purpose of this format is to encourage the idea of preparing the horse for the show. We want every horse and rider to have a positive experience, and we feel this arrangement will provide all competitors with the opportunity to achieve the best results possible. We are committed to helping riders in our Eventing community to further their education, build strong foundations, and train young horses.”
