Storytelling with Gran’daddy Junebug/Mitch Capel
Join us for the first in a new Saturday morning family series featuring Mitch Capel / “Gran’daddy Junebug,” a master storyteller, recording artist, published author and poet, who is also a Friends of Weymouth, Inc. Board Member. He has been featured at numerous schools, libraries, museums and festivals since 1985 including DuSable in Chicago; The Kennedy Center in DC; The National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN; the Smithsonian’s 2009 Folklife Festival on the National Mall and the Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama.
Find out more »House in the Horseshoe Battle Reenactment
On Saturday, August 6, the battle reenactment will return to House in the Horseshoe. Nestled in the bend of the Deep River, the Alston House was the site of an American Revolutionary War skirmish between Patriot Col. Philip Alston and Loyalist Col. David Fanning in 1781.
The Saturday only event will take place 10:00am to 4:00 pm. There will also be food trucks and tours of the Alston House, where bullet holes remain. The program is free; parking is $5 per vehicle (cash only).
