Moore County Airport to host the Second Annual Festival Honoring the Military
The second annual Festival D’Avion presented by Pinehurst Resort & Country Club will take place April 12-13, 2019 and features military might, vintage Warbird aircraft, precision jump team exhibitions and a celebration concert, along with several new offerings that include a unique 5K run and a kids play zone.
The festival honors the men and women who have served in the armed forces. All five branches of the military have approved participation and will provide a variety of static aircraft and military equipment displays.
The “Spirit of Freedom,” a Douglas C-54E transport aircraft with a museum inside dedicated to the Berlin Airlift, will be on site, along with the renowned Bandit Flight Team and “must-see” collectable aircraft.
The Festival D’Avion kicks off April 12 with a special VIP Hangar Party, sponsored by the North Carolina Defense Business Association, followed by a Celebration Concert featuring the ultimate Eagles tribute band, “On the Border.” There will be a special jump team demonstration from Children of Fallen Heroes following the concert and again during the Festival D’Avion on April 13.
The following day will feature a full day of special aircraft displays, scheduled aircraft fly-overs, exhibits and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy. New for 2019 will be a “Junior Flyer” Kids Play Zone with inflatable games and activities for kids of all ages, a Runway 5K fun run on the airport taxiway, and a Food Truck Fly-In with on-site food and beverages, including craft beer and North Carolina wine.
Helicopter tours and bi-plane rides were extremely popular during last year’s inaugural festival and will once again be available to patrons wishing to take in Moore Country from the air.
“The Festival D’Avion is fun for the entire family and one of the most unique events in the area,” said Moore County airport manager Ron Maness. “Seeing all the kids climbing into military helicopters and touring a huge military transport plane with the help of our soldiers, getting a true ‘hands-on experience’ was wonderful, and the coordinated fly-out at the end of the event last year gave everybody goose bumps.”
General parking will once again be located at the Moore County Airport each day.
