2015 World Series Of Dixie Girls Softball To Be Held In Moore County

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 — Southern Pines,  NC — For the first time, Moore County, North Carolina will play host to two age divisions for the World Series of Dixie Girls Softball at Hillcrest Park in Carthage, August 7-13, 2015. Dixie Girls Softball Inc. celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2015.

The tournament will welcome approximately 900 visitors to the county, involving 24 teams from 11 states. The tournament participants include two divisions – Angels X play (ages 9-10), Ponytails X play (ages 11-12)  – from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

“It makes me so happy to finally be able to bring a major girl’s tournament to Moore County,” said Billy Ransom, director of Moore County Parks & Recreation.

“The knowledge we gained from hosting a very successful 2011 World Series will allow us to provide an once-in-a-lifetime experience for these girls and their families.”

“Moore County hosted the 2011 World Series of Dixie Youth Boys Baseball and we are very excited about hosting the Girls Softball World Series,” said Beverly Stewart, director of sales for the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“The players, coaches, family, and other spectators will be eating, shopping, visiting attractions, and buying gas while in the area creating a significant economic impact for Moore County.”

Dixie Softball Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of Birmingham, Alabama. Founded by James E. “Obie” Evans in 1968 and later incorporated in 1975, Dixie Softball organizes hundreds of local youth softball leagues in 11 states throughout the Southeast United States. Dixie Softball is primarily a youth softball program for girls 18 years and younger, playing on a scaled down diamond to meet the physical development of the growing child.  The main purpose of the program is to provide a recreation outlet for as many as possible with emphasis on local league play rather than tournament play.

The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is an economic development organization and non-profit authority of Moore County, North Carolina. The CVB mission is to promote the area as a destination for visitors, meetings, conventions and tours. The CVB is funded primarily by a three percent hotel / motel room occupancy tax paid by visitors to Moore County.
