VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (Nov. 22, 2013) – With the Payne Stewart Statue as a fitting backdrop and Pinehurst Resort caddies flanking entrants and their vintage cars, the “First Foursome” accepted invitations to the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance on Friday.

The 2014 Pinehurst Concours, to include 119 vintage autos judged in 12 classes, is scheduled May 2-4. The competition kicks off a celebrated six-week period at one of the world’s top golf resorts, which will host the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships in consecutive weeks in mid June.

“The Pinehurst Concours is extremely proud of its connection with Pinehurst Resort and the Southern hospitality associated with such a world-renowned location,” said Pinehurst Concours executive director Jay Howard. “We incorporated a Pinehurst tradition – caddies – at our award ceremonies during the inaugural competition in 2013 and are one of the little ‘touches’ that helps make the Pinehurst Concours unique and memorable for entrants, judges and fans.”

The “First Foursome” entrants included Rob VanDewoestine of Durham, N.C., (1960 Plymouth Fury Golden Commando 395 Convertible); Tim Lingerfelt of Davidson, N.C., (1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera); Roberta Holden of Southern Pines (1905 Buick Model C Touring) and Debbie Rogers of Indian Trail, N.C., (1968 Shelby Mustang KR500).

U.S. Open Championship flags were presented to the Pinehurst Concours “First Foursome” – two males and two females.

“I’ve always believed certain automobiles are not only art but time capsules that remind us of the history of our country and of our younger lives,” Rogers said. “With the rich history that is celebrated at Pinehurst I am proud and honored to be a part of this great Pinehurst Concours.”

“My wife and I had the opportunity to exhibit an antique auto at the inaugural Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance in 2013 and had a great time,” added VanDewoestine. “Pinehurst is an excellent venue and the logistics for both the car exhibitors and spectators were extremely well run and very convenient. We are looking forward to attending again in 2014. Auto enthusiasts should not miss this classic event.”

Tickets to the 2014 competition, which will feature classic automobiles on the pristine fairways of Pinehurst Resort, can be purchased online at or by calling 910–973-6594. In addition, Pinehurst Concours tickets are available in the Pinehurst Resort Main Pro Shop, Carolina Hotel Newstand and Village Putter Boy Shop.
