SOUTHERN PINES, NC – DECEMBER 13, 2007 –The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is pleased to announce that two local events have been selected as Top 20 Events for Spring 2008 by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS).  STS members throughout the south submitted dozens of nominations. To be selected out of such a large group of nominations acknowledges the value and significance these events have from a tourism perspective.  Each event is evaluated on what makes it special, number of attendees, and how long the event has been in existence.

The Cameron Antiques Fair takes place the first Saturday in May and October, and will celebrate its 20th year in 2008. With over 350 antique dealers who come annually and 12 antique shops opened throughout the year, the Cameron Antiques Fair draws over 5000 visitors looking for a special treasure or just coming to enjoy a piece of small town American History. Rain or shine the fair goes on. From furniture, to antique toys, vintage linens, to antique tools, there is something for every kind of collector or curiosity seeker.

The Carthage Buggy Festival, started in 1989, is a celebration of the rich history of Carthage, NC. The annual event commemorates the famous Tyson and Jones Buggy factory. From the mid-1800’s to the 1920’s the factory produced the carriages that were essential to life in rural North Carolina. With annual attendance of roughly 15,000, the Carthage Buggy Festival has grown into one of the biggest and best known festivals in the region.

“We are very pleased that two of our area events were selected to be highlighted by the Southeast Tourism Society. It gives these events and our area additional exposure to encourage visitors to plan a vacation that includes Moore County, NC,” indicated Claire Phillips, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Today, STS is eleven states strong with over 550 members in sustaining member states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. They continue their dedication to promoting and developing tourism by pioneering programs that have major impact on the tourism industry regionally and nationally.
