SOUTHERN PINES, NC – AUGUST 19, 2009. Moore County and the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) recently announced that Moore County, NC was awarded the Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) World Series for 2011. Securing the event required the DYB committee to visit Moore County in July to meet with representatives from Moore County Parks and Recreation and to inspect Hillcrest Park facilities in Carthage. The committee toured lodging and restaurant facilities and were shown the many amenities Moore County has to offer. The event will generate as many as 2,000 visitors to the area – players, coaches, officials, and family members. Previous host communities have realized a significant economic impact as a result of the DYB attendee spending, ranging from $3.5 – $4 million.

After the site inspection, representatives from Parks and Recreation and the Convention & Visitors Bureau traveled to Laurel, Mississippi to attend the 2009 Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in early August. A bid presentation was given on August 10th to the DYB national and state directors for the 2011 World Series. A unanimous decision by the directors awarded the 2011 event to Moore County.

“I know that Moore County will be a great host for this event. Not only is the area beautiful with many amenities to offer our guests, but I know they will find Moore County to be a place of wonderful hospitality,” commented North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball State Director, Carey Wrenn.
