Taste Of The New South
Pinehurst Resort will host Taste of the New South, a food & wine weekend, Sept. 4-7. The Labor Day weekend event will feature mouth-watering southern fare, a vast portfolio of prestige wines and a craft beer brewed exclusively for the event.
“The South is known for its unique tastes and traditions, and the programming for the festival is designed to celebrate them all,” said Ed Peckels, Pinehurst Resort’s Director of Food & Beverage. “Guests can choose from more than a dozen tastings, culinary demonstrations and interactive events over the course of the weekend.
The event kicks off Friday with a Carolina Oyster Roast & Pig Pickin’ at the historic Pinehurst Fair Barn. Oyster expert and educator Dan Lewis will offer shucking and cooking tips followed by music from “newgrass” band Fireside Collective.
Attendees can begin Saturday with the Sip ’n’ Stroll Historic Walking Tour. They’ll make their way through the Village of Pinehurst with a specialty cocktail created using a beer crafted by Highland Brewing Company specifically for the event.
Jake Wolf, owner of the popular Raleigh restaurant Capital Club 16, will return to his native Sandhills on Saturday for cooking demonstration where he’ll show off some of his favorite brunch recipes. Wolf’s signature culinary vision was inspired by his grandmother, who will be on hand to share some of the stories behind the dishes.
And of course, the first Saturday of college football season won’t go unnoticed. The Tailgate Lunch Party will feature traditional southern tailgate fare and activities as well as a big screen showing the biggest games of the day.
Saturday comes to a festive close with three unique Vintner Dinners presented by Acura. The wine is the focal point of these intimate meals, and the choice of which dinner to attend is left up to you. Each of the five courses will be expertly paired with wine from a number of renowned vineyards, including Biltmore and Rombauer wineries.
Sunday opens with a Farm to Fork Brunch using locally sourced ingredients from farmers within a 50-mile radius of the Resort. Spend the afternoon enjoying brews while taking part in a friendly competition at the resort’s famed putting course Thistle Dhu, or learning how to pair wine with and barbecue.
The weekend will wind down with the Pinehurst Heritage Dinner featuring dishes skillfully prepared by Pinehurst’s chefs. They will tap into their vast and varied backgrounds to infuse Southern favorites with unique flavors from around the world.
