Established in 1979, the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities is the former estate of author and publisher James Boyd, established to celebrate a rich, continuing history of conservation, literature, equestrian sport and cultural offerings. The 1920s Georgian mansion is located on 24 acres with extensive gardens and is the gateway to the oldest remaining longleaf pine forest. Weymouth is the home of the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame, housed in James Boyd’s study, and is also the home of the Moore County Hounds.
The gardens and grounds are open free to the public daily, and the house is open free Monday through Friday, 10am-2pm. The house is also available for private functions such as weddings, receptions, recitals and galas. The capacity of the Great Room is 100 people seated / 66 at round tables. There are no other stipulations on how many the house will hold. For cocktail-style events, we have had as many as 200.
