Sandhills Story Trail Adventures arriving at Nick’s Creek April 11, 2023!

The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area is known for golf, but as North Carolina celebrates the Year of the Trail in 2023, it is also now home to the Sandhills Story Trail Adventures. Come along with Winnie-the- Pooh as he explores the Sandhills with his many adventures he can’t wait to share with you. Where will he and his friends travel to in the Sandhills of North Carolina?

You will find Pooh hiding at various locations throughout the Sandhills and his journey will take place among our small towns. The Sandhills Story Trail Adventures is an original creation produced by the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and its official Destination Storyteller, Dan Dreyer. The Sandhills Story Trail Adventures are designed for kids of all ages and can be enjoyed along selected Moore County Trails. So, whether you play golf, or not, anyone with a little bit of imagination can enjoy a walk with Winnie-the-Pooh

HOW IT WORKS:

There are 13 “stations” that will have Pooh and his friends on an adventure. Each station correlates to a page in the story. Using a QR code you can read and listen along with music and familiar voices of our friends in the 100 acre woods as they go on an adventure in the Sandhills. Some of the stations will be interactive. You can also download the story and read it any time here.

The first Sandhills Story Trail Adventures “Pooh Invites Everyone”is located at Nick’s Creek Trail a part of the Southern Pines Greenway system and will be there for several months in late spring-summer 2023.

Daniel Dreyer

Daniel Dreyer, Author, Illustrator

Daniel Dreyer was born in Houston, Texas. Since then he has lived in 8 different states before finally landing here in beautiful North Carolina. Along the way he attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he graduated high honors with a concentration in Painting. While painting there and talking about art, Daniel came to wonder if he was more interested in the human condition itself than painting about it. After graduation, Daniel headed out west to work as a survival guide and rehabilitation counselor in the high sierra Moab Desert in Utah. There he learned to survive in the desert, bust fire with natural materials, and discuss our deepest concerns in groups with rehabilitating drug addicts. Responding to the 2008 market crash, Daniel moved back east in search of work and landed at Ebner Camps as a counselor. He eventually worked his way up to Creative Director, working on signage, videography, painting and game design along the way. It was there that he met his beautiful wife, Samantha. Today, Daniel is gratefully employed by Moore County as the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s “Destination Storyteller”. He enjoys Moore County very much and hopes never to leave. At least not while he raises his son, Otto James Dreyer. Among other artful accomplishments, Dab has painted one of the many murals in Carthage and a horse as part of the annual Painted Ponies Program to support Carolina Horse Park. He relishes the opportunity to share his love of stories and storytelling and sincerely hopes you enjoy his work.
