The house (ca. 1770) was owned by Philip Alston, whose band of colonists seeking independence from Britain was attacked here in 1781 during the American Revolution by British loyalists led by David Fanning. Later, four-term governor Benjamin Williams lived in the house, which now features antiques of the colonial and Revolutionary War eras.

242nd Anniversary Reenactment

The annual battle reenactment of the Tory and Whig skirmish at House in the Horseshoe. This one day event will highlight the struggles of the backcountry as the Revolutionary War engulfed North Carolina. Battle will take place at 2:00 pm, Saturday only. Activities and demonstrations throughout the day. *Participation in this event is by invitation only.* SATURDAY, JULY 29, 2023 AT 11 AM – 5 PM
