The house (ca. 1770) was owned by Philip Alston, whose band of colonists seeking independence from Britain was attacked here in 1781 during the American Revolution by British loyalists led by David Fanning. Later, four-term governor Benjamin Williams lived in the house, which now features antiques of the colonial and Revolutionary War eras.

Join us for a day of living history to honor the 240th Anniversary of the attack at House in the Horseshoe. Living history displays on 18th Century as well as scheduled demonstrations will occur throughout the day. No battle reenactment will occur. In order to adhere with COVID-19 guidelines, all demonstrators & reenactors will be by invitation only. Annual Revolutionary Battle Reenactment at the Alston House

On Saturday, August 6, the battle reenactment will return to House in the Horseshoe. Nestled in the bend of the Deep River, the Alston House was the site of an American Revolutionary War skirmish between Patriot Col. Philip Alston and Loyalist Col. David Fanning in 1781.

The Saturday only event will take place 10:00am to 4:00 pm. There will also be food trucks and tours of the Alston House, where bullet holes remain. The program is free; parking is $5 per vehicle (cash only).
