Moore County native William Mangum returns home for a special art show that celebrates North Carolina at the Broadhurst Gallery (2212 Midland Road, Pinehurst). The one-man exhibition will feature 50 new paintings that showcase the state’s natural beauty of seasons and topography. Mangum will greet visitors during the show’s opening weekend events on October 31 through November 2.
This exhibition is diverse in subject matter and each painting is captured with a variety of mastered techniques. Visitors will immediately notice that colorful gardens are the essence of this show, combined with vistas and hideaways discovered during Mangum’s extensive exploration of the state.
“I look forward to returning to Pinehurst and sharing this colorful collection of my latest artwork”, says Mangum. “I have always considered North Carolina and ‘artist paradise’.”
As one of the South’s leading landscape artists, William Mangum’s art career is synonymous with celebrating his beloved state of North Carolina. Six coffee table books attest to that love affair, capturing its iconic virtues from the coast to the mountains. With more than 3,000 paintings to his credit, his palette has broad diversity. More than 50,000 of his works have made their way into private and corporate collections.
Born in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1953, William Mangum knew at the age of eight that he would pursue art as his livelihood. While a senior art student at UNC Greensboro, he first purchased a 59-cent tray of watercolors at Woolworth’s Five & Dime store to create his first painting for his mother. Bill went on to begin his professional journey while earning his Master of Fine Arts while still in school.

In addition to the originals, his North Carolina Beautiful coffee table book will be available for purchase. It features 100 paintings that create a scenic travelogue of the state’s natural treasures.
The show will continue through December 21. Two special evening receptions kick off the exhibition on October 31 and November 1, 4-7 PM. Mangum will also share inspirations behind the art on Saturday, November 2, 11 AM until 1 PM. The Broadhurst Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 11 AM-5 PM and Saturday 1-4 PM.
